From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Suspecting that Charles David Rothenberg has been paroled to their area, Alameda County officials publicly voiced outrage that the man who set his son afire in an Orange County motel room might be nearby and vowed to seek Gov. George Deukmejian’s help in having him sent elsewhere. Mayor Lionel Wilson said he believed that it was “likely” that Rothenberg was in Oakland, based on remarks by the city’s police chief. Board of Supervisors Chairman Don Perata said he would ask the governor to have Rothenberg held on the grounds of San Quentin prison. There has been no official confirmation of Rothenberg’s whereabouts. He served 6 1/2 years of a 13-year sentence before his release amid the tightest security of any parolee in state history. His son, David, now 13, survived the attack.
