Randy Travis Nominated for 5 Music Awards

Randy Travis was chosen today as a finalist for five fan-voted country music awards, including entertainer of the year and No. 1 male singer.

For the awards sponsored by The Nashville Network and Music City News, Travis was also nominated for single of the year for “It’s Just a Matter of Time,” music video of the year for the same song and album of the year for “No Holdin’ Back.”

Travis dominated the balloting conducted among readers of the Music City News, a monthly country music publication in Nashville. Winners will be determined in a second round of voting in the publication and by telephone voting sponsored by The Nashville Network on cable TV.

Winners will be announced at the TNN-Music City News Country Awards show to be telecast live by the cable station from the Grand Ole Opry House on June 4.

Joining Travis as finalists for entertainer of the year are Alabama, Ricky Van Shelton, the Statler Brothers and George Strait.

Other finalists for top male singer are Clint Black, Rodney Crowell, Shelton and Strait.

Finalists for favorite female vocalist are Patty Loveless, Kathy Mattea, Reba McEntire, Lorrie Morgan and Tanya Tucker.

Other finalists for single of the year are “After All This Time” by Crowell, “I’m No Stranger to the Rain” by the late Keith Whitley, “Living Proof” by Shelton and “More Than a Name on a Wall” by the Statler Brothers.

Completing the nominations for album of the year are “Alone” by Vern Gosdin, “Beyond the Blue Neon” by Strait, “I Wonder Do You Think of Me” by Whitley and “Killin’ Time” by Black.

Other finalists for No. 1 music video are “Dear Me” by Lorrie Morgan, “That Just About Does It” by Gosdin, “There’s a Tear in My Beer” by Hank Williams Jr. and “Why’d You Come in Here Lookin’ Like That” by Dolly Parton.

There are 13 categories with the others honoring the top comedian, instrumentalist, gospel group, vocal group, vocal duo, vocal collaboration and rising star.

The other two yearly country music award shows, sponsored by the Country Music Assn. in Nashville and the Academy of Country Music in Los Angeles, determine their winners by a vote of people in the music industry.
