Rapist Pleads Guilty, Faces 8-Year Sentence

A Sun Valley man arrested during a police stakeout as he attempted to rape a woman walking to work pleaded guilty Thursday to charges of rape and attempted rape.
Alfredo Valencia Jimenez, 20, will be sentenced to eight years in state prison under the terms of a plea agreement reached with the district attorney’s office, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Edwin F. Greene.
Jimenez was arrested about 6:20 a.m. on Jan. 16, after police officers saw him grab a 21-year-old woman, drag her into an alcove and try to tear off her clothes, Greene said.
Officers were staking out the area because in the preceding weeks two women had been attacked there in the early morning. One of the women was raped. In the other attack, someone heard the woman’s screams and chased the assailant away.
