Acar and a pickup truck collided on the Antelope Valley Freeway south of Palmdale Friday, killing one of the drivers, critically injuring the other and creating a massive traffic tie-up for northbound motorists, authorities said.

The identities of the victims were not immediately available, nor were details of the cause of the crash, which occurred about 5:45 p.m. on the northbound side of the freeway a mile north of the Pearblossom Highway exit, officials said.

The car was sheared in half and its driver was thrown out, according to a motorist who saw the wreckage.
