Two Waco television news anchors who were reported missing last week and then turned up together in New Mexico have resigned from the television station.

The KWTX-TV anchors, Wendy Sheldon and Mike Reeder, resigned Friday during their first meeting with station executives since they left in late January, said Virgil Teter, the station’s vice president for news.

Sheldon’s husband, Jan Rigby, reported her missing Jan. 26, when she didn’t show up for work. Rigby is production manager at the station. Sheldon anchored weekday newscasts.

Police began looking for Reeder, a weekend anchor, when a company car he checked out Jan. 26 was found at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center.

They were found at an Albuquerque, N.M., hotel the following Monday.

The case gained national notoriety when the syndicated television program “A Current Affair” broadcast the story.
