FOUNTAIN VALLEY : District May Close Its Oldest School

Share

The Fountain Valley School District board is expected to decide Thursday night whether to close a district elementary school. The closing would be the district’s ninth in the last 10 years.

Continued declining enrollment at Fountain Valley School at 17911 Bushard St., the district’s oldest school, has placed it on the list for possible closure twice. Parents successfully fought to keep the school open in 1987.

Parents have once again formed a group aimed at stopping the closure and say they will take legal action if necessary.

“We feel that they aren’t considering all that needs to be considered in this matter,” said Barbara Emerson, a member of the group. “There are many things about this deal with closing schools that hasn’t come out, and the public needs to know.”

The group contends that the district has failed to evaluate the impact that closing the school would have on Fountain Valley residents.

The school board will meet at 7 p.m. at the district offices, 17210 Oak St.
