“Aida” Coming: As announced earlier, a touring production of Verdi’s “Aida,” produced by the International Opera Festival, will reach the United States in June, with performances scheduled at Giants Stadium in New York June 1 and 2, at the Coliseum in Los Angeles, June 29 and 30, and at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, July 13-14. The production has previously been seen in Canada, Australia and Japan. At a Wednesday press conference--attended by, among others, an elephant, a python and a camel--at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, conductor Giuseppe Raffa declined to announce casting but revealed that the production will tour with principals and ballet, and will hire orchestra and chorus at each stop.
