A car driven by a suspected drunk driver crossed a traffic median and struck another car broadside Friday in Simi Valley, killing the second car’s 73-year-old driver, the Simi Valley Police Department reported.

The woman, a Simi Valley resident whose identity was not made public pending notification of relatives, was pronounced dead at Simi Valley Adventist Hospital shortly after the 3:40 p.m. crash, Lt. Neil Rein said. She suffered internal injuries, he said.

Police arrested Theresa Striglio, 32, of Simi Valley on suspicion of felony drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter after she failed to negotiate a turn at Los Angeles Avenue and Kuehner Drive and collided with the other car, which was slowing for a stop sign on Kuehner Drive, Rein said. Striglio, who apparently was driving at an unsafe speed, was not injured, Rein said.

Striglio’s blood-alcohol level, tested after the accident, was significantly above 0.08%, the legal definition of drunkenness, Rein said. He would not specify what the level was.
