The Associated Press’ round-by-round account and judges’ scoring of the Buster Douglas-Mike Tyson heavyweight championship fight.

ROUND 1

Tyson came across the ring at the opening bell and gave a jab as the two fighters clinched. Hardly anything happened the first 30 seconds. Douglas circled away, Tyson got in a blow to the body on the ropes. Douglas missed. They clinched at the minute mark. Tyson got in two jabs and Douglas answered with a jab and a right hand. Tyson got in a short right before mid-round and the two clinched again. Tyson hit on the break and was warned by the referee. Douglas got in a good right and a left at 1:45 of the round. Douglas got in two jabs and missed. Douglas got a right to the body and a right to the head. Douglas tied Tyson up at 2:20 and they were quickly parted. Tyson bulled Douglas into his corner and again the referee broke them up. Douglas landed a right to the head and Tyson came back with a hook to the head. Round to Douglas.

ROUND 2

Tyson attacked as the round opened, but Douglas tied him up. Douglas got in a couple of jabs, then moved away. Douglas got in a left, right, left to the head of Tyson. Tyson bulled Douglas around the ring but Douglas landed four or five head shots. The two men clinched just past the minute mark. Tyson appeared to have no rhythm. Tyson got in a short jab and the two clinched again. Douglas got in a right jab at the 1:35 mark, then backed away. He then tied Tyson up. Tyson looked ineffective. Tyson got in a right to the body at the 2-minute mark. The action slowed down. Tyson got in a right, left and right. Round to Douglas.

ROUND 3

Tyson came roaring out again, pinning Douglas into a neutral corner before Douglas tied him up. Douglas threw a right to the head and got a hook in return. Douglas threw a good jab and a right to the jaw. Douglas landed a jab, two rights and another jab. Then the two clinched briefly. Douglas got in two more jabs. Action slowed again. Tyson seemed to be befuddled. Tyson got a good right into the ribs just before the two-minute mark, then the two clinched again. Action once again slowed. Tyson got in a left to the face that moved Douglas back. Douglas came back with a right uppercut. Round to Tyson.

ROUND 4

Douglas scored two good jabs shortly after the round began. Tyson was looking for an opening, but was unable to solve Douglas. Douglas’ corner complained that Tyson was using his elbows. Tyson missed with a hook and got in with a right to the head as Douglas pulled back. The two clinched again. Action was slow in the first half of the round. Douglas got in a right to the head, then the two clinched again at mid-round. The first two minutes were the slowest of any round so far. Douglas got in a good right hand, then missed a hook. Action slowed again. Tyson got in a hook to the face, then a hook to the side of the head before Douglas tied him up. Tyson got in a good right to the body as Douglas pushed him to the ropes. ROUND 5

Tyson came right out after Douglas. Douglas landed a pretty good right hand to the head and a couple of jabs, but Tyson would not back off. Tyson got in a jab, then the two tied each other up. Tyson landed a right to the head. Action slowed again. Douglas got in a good right hand at 1:18. Douglas threw a left and right to the head, then a couple of jabs. Then the two men tied up after a right-left hook by Tyson. Action slowed. Tyson got in a jab at the 2:25 mark. Tyson was unable to put his punches together. ROUND 6

There was a swelling above Tyson’s left eye. There wasn’t one effective punch thrown in the first 30 seconds. As the two men clinched in the middle of the ring, Douglas got in a short uppercut to the chin. The first half of the round was very slow. Tyson simply could not figure out how to be effective. Tyson got in a jab at the 1:40 mark. Again they clinched. Tyson got in a left to the head and a right to the side. Tyson got in a left to the side of the head just before the bell. Round even

ROUND 7

Tyson again came out looking to mix it up. Douglas again tied him up. Tyson was told to keep his punches up. Douglas got in a left jab, Tyson came back with a pretty good left to the body. Once again they clinched. Tyson got in a short right uppercut but it had no effect. Douglas got in two left jabs just past the minute mark, and again they clinched. Tyson got in two left hands to the body and then they clinched again. Douglas got in a right to the head before another clinch. Tyson got in a good jab as the round entered the second half. Tyson got in a hook. Tyson got in a hook and a jab, but Douglas was moving away, taking away the impact. Tyson got in a left to the body and again was warned for hitting low. Douglas got in two good jabs. Tyson answered with a jab. Tyson got in a left uppercut to the jaw. Tyson threw a right and left to the body with 10 seconds left. Round to Tyson.

ROUND 8

Douglas opened the round with a good solid jab. Douglas got in a one-two to the head. Tyson threw a left and might have hit Douglas with a forearm. Tyson got in a short right to the chin. Tyson got in a short right to the jaw with 50 seconds gone. Douglas was beginning to punch less. There was no action in the first two minutes of the round. Douglas got in two jabs, missed a right and threw a left hook. Douglas got in two more lefts. Douglas landed a right to the body and a right to the head at the 2:20 mark. Douglas landed another right to the head, then swarmed to the attack, landing a couple of punches to the head and body. Douglas had Tyson pinned to the ropes. ROUND 9

Tyson came out looking to end it. Douglas hit Tyson with a big right that backed him up. Then Tyson tied him up. Tyson’s left eye is almost closed. Tyson landed a left to the head. Tyson got out of the jam. Tyson landed a left hand to Douglas’ head at mid-round. Douglas landed a right that hurt Tyson. Tyson was in trouble on the ropes. Tyson got off the ropes but Douglas shoved him back with 40 seconds left. Douglas threw a right lead that shook Tyson. There were two more punches before Tyson grabbed. Douglas landed another right to the head with 10 seconds left. Round to Douglas

ROUND 10

Tyson opened the round with a right hand. The fighters were then separated. Douglas threw a right hand, then a jab. The fighters clinched. Douglas jabbed and they clinched again. Douglas landed a right-left combination. Tyson’s left eye was almost closed. Douglas threw five straight jabs and followed witth a right uppercut that hurt Tyson. Douglas followed up with a right-left-right-left combination that knocked Tyson on his back. Tyson got on his knees at the count of five and picked up his mouthpiece, but was still wobbly. Tyson reached his feet as he was counted out. End of fight
