THE SIDELINES : 2 Pros Sued After Party Stunt
A former college basketball player’s $150,000 damage lawsuit filed against Dominique Wilkins of the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks and Jeff Bryant of the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks claims that the man was dropped six feet to the ground at a party at Wilkins’ house.
The suit by Melvin Howard, who played at the University of Georgia and Georgia State University, contends that Bryant dropped him and that it was Wilkins’ responsibility to prevent the injury during the 1988 party.
Neither Wilkins nor Bryant, both of whom live in the Atlanta area, could be reached for comment, and team officials had no comment.
Howard, who works for Federal Express, said that several people at the July 3, 1988, party were being thrown fully clothed into the swimming pool. Bryant, according to the suit, tried to throw Howard in but instead dropped him onto the wall of the pool.
