The annual Super Bowl of Chili Cook-Off benefit produced by Kenn Kingsbury and Harry Coleman was held Dec. 2 at El Cariso Park in Sylmar. The event, attended by 2,500 guests, raised $12,400 for the Wildlife Waystation, which cares for orphaned, injured and abused wild and exotic animals. More than 1,000 animals are housed at the Waystation.

* The Graphic Arts Council of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art raised an estimated $60,000 at its annual Valentine’s Gala Feb. 9 at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Funds will be used for the acquisition of prints and drawings for the museum’s collection.

* A gift of $2.4 million from the Revlon Foundation to the UCLA School of Medicine will support research and treatment on the principal forms of women’s cancers, announced Dr. Kenneth I. Shine, UCLA’s medical school dean. The newly created Revlon/UCLA Women’s Cancer Research Program will address breast and ovarian cancers, which account for one-third of all cancers in women.

* “Funnies for a Healthy World” raised $35,000 at Zola Fine Art Gallery on Melrose Feb. 8 to benefit the pesticide reform program of California Public Interest Research Group. The highest price paid was $1,050 for art by both Cathy Guisewite (“Cathy”) and Mell Lazarus (“Momma” and “Miss Peach.”) More than 250 attended the auction with works auctioned by Rhea Perlman, Michael Tucker, Betty Friedan and other celebrities.
