Catholic Archbishop Roger M. Mahony said Friday that a $5-million fund-raising drive has been established to help restore and refurbish seven Irish seminaries where many priests in Los Angeles were educated.
Mahony said 170 Irish-born priests are serving in the archdiocese.
“We in the archdiocese are most appreciative of the contribution made by the church in Ireland to the people of the Los Angeles Archdiocese,” he said.
The funds will benefit the All Hallows seminary in Dublin, St. Patrick’s in Carlow, Maynooth and Thurles, St. Peter’s in Wexford, St. John’s in Waterford and St. Kiernan’s in Kilkenny.
