WCC ROUNDUP : USF Defeats Santa Clara, 88-83

Joel DeBortoli scored 27 points and the University of San Francisco beat Santa Clara, 88-83, Saturday night in a West Coast Conference game at Santa Clara.

USF (8-17 overall, 4-8 in the WCC) had a 47-38 lead at halftime, but Santa Clara (9-16, 6-6) scored the first 10 points of the second half.

The Dons, who made 58% of their shots, went to DeBortoli and gradually regained control.

Jeffty Connelly had 30 points and 10 rebounds for Santa Clara, and Ron Reis added 20.

Portland 84, Gonzaga 68--Josh Lowery scored 28 points to lead the Pilots past the Bulldogs at Portland, Ore.

Lowery had 15 points in the second half, including 13 in a 22-10 run to open the period. His driving layup with 11:54 left gave the Pilots (9-16, 6-6) a 62-43 lead.

Jim McPhee scored 21 points for the Bulldogs (6-19, 1-11).
