The Las Vegas City Council has approved an ordinance that would prohibit NCAA athletes from betting on college games at sports books in the city, even if they are 21 or older.

The ordinance is designed to plug a loophole that allows anyone over age 21 to bet in the state’s race and sports books.

NCAA rules prohibit college athletes from betting on games.

UNLV athletic officials asked the city, county and state to change their laws so current college athletes will not be allowed to bet, even if they are over the legal age limit.
