A 24-year-old man was shot and killed Thursday in Pacific Beach after an argument with another man, police said.

The incident began about 10 a.m. when the victim, Marco Anthony Sanchez, got into an argument with Andrea Barton, 20, because her car had stalled in front of his car at Grand Avenue and Ingraham Street, said Dave Cohen, a spokesman for the San Diego Police Department.

Barton managed to restart her car but told police that Sanchez tried to run her off the road before he parked in the 1000 block of Garnet Avenue, Cohen said. Barton continued west to her father’s business in the 4900 block of Cass Street, Cohen said. She told her father, Howard Barton Jr., 46, what had happened, and the two of them drove to the sporting goods store Sanchez had entered.

The two men argued inside the store, then went outside, Cohen said. Sanchez was seated inside his car when he allegedly swung a knife at Barton. Cohen said Barton allegedly fired one shot at Sanchez, who staggered out of his car and walked about half a block before collapsing. Sanchez was taken to Scripps Hospital-La Jolla, where he died shortly afterward.

Police found a handgun at the scene and a pair of scissors and a knife inside Sanchez’s car. Cohen said that Howard Barton, a La Jolla resident, was taken into custody. Barton was not listed in the County Jail records Thursday night.

Sanchez, a National City resident, is survived by his wife, Gloria.
