One man was wounded by gunfire and several others injured when rival gang members clashed Friday night at the Pacific Highway 39 Drive-in Theater during a screening of “Angel Town,” a movie that depicts gang violence in Los Angeles.

The identification and condition of the wounded man, who was rushed to the UCI Medical Center in Orange, was not immediately available.

Westminster Police Lt. Bob Burnett said a brawl started during the movie. “Probably between 30 to 100 people may have been involved,” he said. “They started to damage each other’s cars with baseball bats and clubs.”

The battle later spilled outside the drive-in, located in the 7900 block of Trask Avenue, Burnett said. Police were summoned when gunshots were heard.

Burnett said officers detained a number of reputed gang members. Officers discovered the wounded man after they stopped two cars about three miles away in Garden Grove, Burnett said.

“The investigation is very difficult . . . because no one is cooperating with us right now,” Burnett said. “It’s obvious (why they’re not cooperating). They’re gang members.”

“Angel Town,” which opened Friday night, is the story of a kickboxer who takes to the streets of Los Angeles to rescue a family troubled by a neighborhood gang.
