CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : LEMOORE NAVAL AIR STATION : Navy Pilot Ejects From Crippled Jet

A Navy instructor pilot parachuted to safety just before his jet crashed into the Mojave Desert near China Lake, authorities said Friday. Lt. John McClaran bailed out of the AE-7 Corsair attack bomber when it malfunctioned during a training mission Thursday. He was picked up by a rescue helicopter from the China Lake Naval Weapons Center and flown to Lone Pine Medical Center.
