Beth Daniel made four consecutive birdies on the back nine Friday to open a two-stroke lead after two rounds of the Hawaiian Ladies Open at Honolulu.

Daniel, with 18 LPGA Tour victories, had six birdies and one bogey for a five-under-par 67 on the firm greens of the new 6,206-yard Ko Olina Golf Club course on Oahu’s west shore. With one round left in the 54-hole tournament, she was at six-under 138.

Amy Benz was two strokes back after shooting a 70. First-round co-leader Elaine Crosby, defending champion Sherri Turner and Judy Dickinson were three strokes back. Crosby had a 72, Turner a 71 and Dickinson a 69.

Daniel started the day two strokes behind Crosby, Cathy Gerring and Patty Sheehan. But Sheehan shot a 73 to drop four strokes back with DeeDee Lasker, Lori Poling and Hiromi Kobayashi of Japan. Gerring dropped to even-par for the tournament with a 75.

Rain forced the cancellation of the second round of the Senior PGA Tour’s Chrysler Cup at Sarasota, Fla. The tournament is scheduled to resume today with team better-ball stroke play competition. Sunday’s final round will consist of eight individual stroke-play matches.
