SEATTLE — About 70 blocks of downtown Seattle lost electrical power for several hours Saturday after a fire in a transformer vault. No injuries were reported.
The outage darkened hotel lobbies and shut down switching equipment for the Washington State Lottery, leaving many people unable to buy tickets on the night of a $6-million drawing, one of the state’s largest.
The area of the power outage encompassed Pike Place Market, several major department stores, the Seattle Aquarium and the Port of Seattle.
