Geoff Brabham, who will co-drive with Derek Daly of Ireland, won his fourth consecutive Miami Grand Prix pole. Brabham had qualifying laps of 96.158 and 97.216 m.p.h.
Nissan teammate Chip Robinson set a track record with a speed of 97.463 on his opening lap, but spun out on his second. He recovered and qualified fifth.
