COSTA MESA — Pat Metheny, Branford Marsalis and other critically acclaimed names in jazz highlight a three-concert contemporary-jazz series announced today by the Orange County Performing Arts Center.
The Modern Jazz Quartet, a long-running group that treats jazz with classical refinement, and the Kronos Quartet, a classical string quartet whose music bends eclectically in the direction of pop, rock and jazz, will open the series on April 22.
A June 15 concert features a quartet of jazz all-stars: drummer Jack DeJohnette, pianist Herbie Hancock, bassist Dave Holland and guitarist Pat Metheny.
The series ends Nov. 29 with a performance by the Branford Marsalis Quartet, led by the young saxophonist whose career has swung between the be-bop tradition and rock explorations with Sting.
Subscription tickets for the entire series go on sale March 18. Information: (714) 556-ARTS, Ext. 240.
