SANTA ANA : City to Hire 4 Firms as Part of Quake Plan
The city will sign agreements with four engineering firms whose inspectors will determine whether local bridges, freeways and railroad lines are safe after an earthquake.
A staff report to the council cited the Oct. 17 earthquake in San Francisco as one of the reasons Santa Ana needs to have a plan to respond to disasters that could cripple some of the city’s transportation routes.
As part of Santa Ana’s emergency preparedness plan, the report recommended that the council hire four firms to make sure that there would be inspectors available after a disaster.
The agreements will be signed with Boyle Engineering Corp.; Moffat & Nichol Engineers; Parsons, Brinckeroff, Quade & Douglas Inc., and ASL Consulting Engineers.
Santa Ana has three freeways and 17 arterial highways within its city limits. The inspections also will include all bridges and railroad lines.
