An unidentified man was found stabbed to death outside a downtown Tijuana bar, and authorities are investigating whether he may have come from one of San Diego’s Navy bases.

The victim, believed to be 26 to 33 years old, was found dead Feb. 19. Mexican officials contacted San Diego officials because the victim was wearing what appeared to be black military-issue shoes and a military-issue belt with a brass buckle. He also had short-cropped brown hair.

No identification was found on the victim, who was about 5-foot-9 to 6 feet tall, had a brown mustache and weighed 175 pounds. He had what appears to be a surgical scar on his chest.

Harry Stoval, special agent in charge with the Naval Investigative Services, said the victim got into an argument and was apparently asked to leave the bar. His body was found outside the bar, his wallet missing.

At the time of his death, the man was wearing blue jeans, a sleeveless T-shirt with a short-sleeve blue polo shirt over it.

Officials with the NIS, as well as the San Diego Police Department, are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call 556-1364.
