COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Scruggs Leads SCC to 97-86 Victory

Terry Scruggs had 33 points and seven rebounds to lead Southern California College to a 97-86 victory over The Master’s College in the first round of the NAIA District III men’s basketball playoffs Tuesday night at SCC.

Rick Witmer added 19 points and Jeff Bickmore had 18 points, eight rebounds and six blocked shots for SCC (23-8).

In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. baseball:

Cal State Northridge 7, Chapman 6--Chapman scored two runs in the ninth and had the tying run on third with no one out but couldn’t score at Hart Park in Orange.

Northridge reliever Val Lopez saved the victory for starter Craig Clayton (4-1). Northridge is 9-6, 4-1.

Tom Allison had three hits and scored two runs and Doug Yates had two hits and three RBIs for Chapman (8-7, 1-2).

In nonconference men’s baseball:

UC Irvine 14, U.S. International 8--Irvine won its seventh consecutive game, which is the its longest winning streak since 1973. The Anteaters are 9-6, their best start since 1981 when they were 11-3. Osmar DeChavez doubled twice, drove in two runs and scored two to pace the Anteaters’ 15-hit attack.

In nonconference women’s tennis:

UC Irvine 9, Cal State Long Beach 0--Stacey Cadigan won, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles and No. 2 Ali Yoshimoto won, 6-1, 6-1, for visiting Irvine (4-10).
