THE SIDELINES : Tauson in 1st Major Semifinal
Michael Tauson of Denmark upset fifth-seeded Magnus Gustafsson of Sweden, and Jonas Svensson of Sweden beat his countryman Thomas Hogstedt to reach the semifinals of the $450,000 ABN World Tennis Tournament today.
Tauson, ranked 144th in the world, beat Gustafsson 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (7-4) in advancing to his first semifinal in a major event. Svensson defeated Hogstedt 6-3, 6-7, 7-5.
Top-seeded Brad Gilbert played Israel’s Amos Mansdorf and defending champion Jakob Hlasek of Switzerland met Alex Antonitsch of Austria later today.
