In other Loara tournament games:

Ocean View 2, San Clemente 1-- Ocean View scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. Dan Hernandez doubled and went to third on a passed ball. Micah Edwardson doubled to left to score Hernandez. Randy Karliner (1-0), who relieved in the fifth, got the victory. He had four strikeouts. Ken Dolan (0-1) had eight strikeouts and allowed seven hits in the loss.

University 3, Loara 2--University had one hit in the victory at Glover Stadium in Anaheim. A first-inning single by Jerry Apana, two walks and two errors resulted in all three University runs. Brent Bird had an RBI double and Kyle Poffenberger had a RBI single for Loara.

Servite 3, Cypress 1--Rob Walker pitched five innings, allowing four hits, for visiting Servite (1-0). Steve Sandoval hit a two-run home run for Sevite.

El Dorado 6, Los Amigos 2--El Dorado scored three runs in the sixth and three in the seventh at Los Amigos. Tyson Dowdell had an RBI single and a sacrifice fly for El Dorado. Andy Brazelle pitched three innings for the victory.

Los Alamitos 6, Newbury Park 6 (9 innings)--Los Alamitos advances on total bases, 41-37. Brian Havens had hit a home run, and Todd Gragnano had 11 strikeouts in seventh-plus innings for Los Alamitos.

Katella 9, Irvine 2--Dan Allen (1-0) allowed three hits over five innings for visiting Katella. Eric Boyd had three hits, including a double, Brian Franklin had two hits and scored three runs and Chris Marquez had two hits and an RBI for Katella.

Fountain Valley 4, Anaheim 1--Darren LaPoint had two hits and scored a run to lead Fountain Valley at Brookhurst Park. Jeff Hale pitched five innings, allowing two hits, for the victory.

Magnolia 12, La Quinta 7--Winning pitcher John Straits went two for two, drove in three runs and struck out 10 in 6 1/3 innings. He allowed 10 hits and four runs. Brice Hoy had three hits and five RBIs for Magnolia.

Diamond Bar 10, Santiago 2--Visiting Diamond Bar scored six runs on two hits and four walks in the third inning to make the score 9-0. Santiago never recovered and is 0-1.

Dana Hills 10, Marina 7--Marina led, 7-5, going into the bottom of the seventh, but Dana Hills scored five runs. Lance Marks led off the inning with a home run Ryan O’Leary singled and one out later, Ryan Delfs singled to put runners on first and third. Jeff Wolter then squeezed home Leary for the tying run.

With two outs and two on, Ryan Harrison homered to center field to end the game. Harrison had two hits and four RBIs. Marks had three hits. Marina’s Mark Newfield had three hits, including a home run.

Laguna Hills 8, Western 2--Kevin Lovinger pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing only two hits and striking out 13 for visiting Laguna Hills. Matt Maffei had three hits and one RBI and Jim Reynolds had three hits and three RBIs.

Kennedy 9, Downey 4--Rod Rosales had two hits and scored two runs, Will Villalobos had a hit and three RBIs and Min Son had a hit and two RBIs for Kennedy.

In the El Segundo tournament:

Brea-Olinda 4, Long Beach Jordan 3--Brian Travaglia hit into a fielder’s choice to drive in the winning run with the bases loaded in the seventh for Brea-Olinda. Tim Carman had 10 strikeouts in six innings for Brea.

Jordan had scored to tie it, 3-3, in the seventh but the rally was stopped short when Brea’s Matt Seelan threw out the potential go-ahead run to end the seventh.

Edison 9, Hawthorne 6 (8 innings)--Don Smith hit a two-run home run for visiting Edison in the eighth to break a 6-6 tie. Smith was four for four with two home runs and a double. He had four RBIs and scored four runs. Chad Ponegalek had four hits for Edison as well.

Westminster 5, Los Angeles Banning 3--Bob Gonzales struck out George Sadi with two runners on to save the game for Westminster in the seventh. Dennis Barclay pitched four shutout innings, allowing two hits. He also had two hits and an RBI for Westminster.

In a nonleague game:

Corona del Mar 8, Laguna Beach 5--Trailing, 5-2, Corona del Mar scored six runs in the seventh. Brady Lamar had three hits, scored three runs and drove in two runs with a double and Tim DeCinces had two hits and two RBIs. Rees Thorkelson pitched two innings of relief and struck out two for the victory. Mica Brown hit a two-run home run in the first and Clark Harmon solo home run in the fifth inning for Laguna Beach.

Claremont 15, Van Horne 4--Pat Dodd had three hits to lead visiting Garden Grove Claremont.

In nonleague softball:

San Clemente 8, Laguna Hills 0--Tara Roush pitched a one-hitter with seven strikeouts to lead San Clemente at Laguna Hills. Roush had three hits and two RBIs and Wendy Stewart had two hits and scored two runs for San Clemente.

Capistrano Valley 23, Morningside 1 (5 innings, mercy rule)--Jennifer Smith got 14 of the 15 outs by way of strikeouts for Capistrano Valley. Alison Carpenter had four hits and two RBIs to lead the visiting Cougars (1-0).

Westminster 15, Liberty Christian 0--Lisa Robinett doubled and had three RBIs and Shelly Fuller doubled, scored four runs and had two RBIs to lead host Westminster. Stephanie Viola pitched just three innings but struck out seven to get her first victory.

Claremont 22, Mary Star JV 18--Amy Miller had four hits, including a triple and double, and four RBIs to lead host Claremont (1-0).

Savanna 5, Troy 0--Winning pitcher Leigh Sager struck out eight, allowed one hit in six innings, and drove in two runs to lead Savanna (1-0).

Santa Margarita 8, Costa Mesa 2--Visiting Santa Margarita was led by Katie Beatty, who pitched a two-hitter and struck out 11. Costa Mesa’s runs were unearned.

Dana Hills 6, Newport Harbor 3--Ali Barry had three hits, including a triple, for Newport Harbor (0-1).

Kennedy 2, Cypress 0--Cheryl Longeway (1-0) pitched a two-hitter for host Kennedy at Arnold Park in Cypress. Nicole Paloney had an RBI single as Kennedy scored twice in the second inning.

Santa Ana 7, Orange 1--Lori Saldana allowed one run and four hits to pick up the victory for host Santa Ana. Stephanie Larson had a two-run single and a two-run home run for Santa Ana, which had nine hits. Jennifer Lumley added two hits and an RBI for Santa Ana.

Mater Dei 1, Irvine 0--Amy Godwin doubled in the bottom of the eighth inning and scored when Irvine center fielder Susan Caton dropped Jennifer Clark’s fly ball. Teri Kobata pitched a four-hitter, striking out seven for Mater Dei (1-0). Jennifer Brundage allowed two hits for Irvine (0-1).

El Toro 4-11, Foothill 1-1--Paige Lauby allowed one hit, had 15 strikeouts and added an RBI double in the first game for host El Toro. T.J. Stoewsand had two hits and drove in two runs for the Chargers in the second game.

In the Fullerton tournament:

University 5, Santiago 1--Michele Ponce had three hits and scored for host University.

In boys’ nonleague swimming:

Valencia 91, Canyon 43--Jeff Myers won the 200-yard freestyle (1 minute 58.04 seconds), the 100 backstroke (1:08.09) and was part of the winning 400 freestyle relay team for host Valencia.

Orange 106, Garden Grove 30--Host Orange was led by Mike Prahm, who won the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.47) and the 100 butterfly (57.34). He was also part of the 400 freestyle relay team (3:37.5) that finished first.

In girls’ nonleague swimming:

Orange 80, Garden Grove 72--Stacie Wurtz won the 200 freestyle (2:38.99) and the 500 free (7:35.22) to lead host Orange.

In nonleague boys’ tennis:

Capistrano Valley 10, Santa Margarita 8--Capistrano Valley (1-1) was led by Maximo Alvarez, who swept, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2. The doubles team of Matt Rapp and Ken Laberman swept, 6-4, 6-2, 6-1, for host Capistrano Valley.

El Dorado 10, Saddleback 8--Matt Huddleston swept, 6-2, 6-4, 6-3, to lead visiting El Dorado (2-0). Jeff Bailes and Sherman Hsieh swept, 6-2, 6-3, 6-3, in doubles for El Dorado.

Fountain Valley 15, Laguna Beach 3--Eddie Weiss swept, 6-2, 6-0, 6-0, to lead host Fountain Valley (2-0). In doubles, Fountain Valley’s Mike Li and Sahel Nehrir swept, 6-3, 6-1, 6-1. Laguna Beach is 0-2.

Corona del Mar 16, Foothill 2--David Bain swept, 6-2, 6-4, 6-2, and Jamie Katzman swept, 6-0, 6-1, 6-0, to lead Corona del Mar (2-0). Also for the Sea Kings, Marshall Solomon and Ken Alston swept, 6-3, 6-1, 6-2, in doubles.

In nonleague golf:

Huntington Beach 406, Esperanza 422 (18 holes)--Rick Davidson shot a six-over-par 77 for Esperanza in a two-day tournament that was played at Yorba Linda Country Club and Sea Cliff Country Club. Jeff Gibson shot a 79 to lead Huntington Beach.
