TENNIS ROUNDUP : Masur to Face Stich in Memphis
Wally Masur put on a clinic for Glenn Layendecker Saturday night as the Australian won, 6-3, 6-2, to earn his way into the championship match of the $250,000 Volvo Indoor tennis tournament in Memphis, Tenn.
Masur, seeded sixth, will meet unseeded Michael Stich, who eliminated Gary Muller, 7-5, 7-6 (7-4).
Aaron Krickstein and Tim Mayotte both won their semifinal singles matches in straight sets to advance to today’s final in the Eagle tournament at Scottsdale, Ariz. Krickstein beat Spain’s Emilio Sanchez, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, and Mayotte defeated Jim Grabb, 6-4, 6-1.
Top-seeded Brad Gilbert of the United States beat Michael Tauson, 6-3, 6-3, and will face Jonas Svensson in the final at Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
