9,000 Gallon Sewage Spill Fouls the Bay
Nearly 9,000 gallons of sewage flowed into San Diego Bay over a two-hour period Monday.
The spill began about 8:30 a.m. when a sewer main backed up because it was blocked by roots and grease, according to the county Health Services Department. Sewage overflowed from a manhole near the intersection of Canon and Shafter streets and flowed into a storm drain near Canon Street and Anchorage Lane. The storm drain empties into San Diego Bay.
Signs warning of contamination have been posted.
