Sand Devil Wins at Aqueduct

Sand Devil led all the way and breezed to a six-length victory in the $34,000 Make Amends purse at Aqueduct on Monday.

The winner, coupled in the wagering with Indian Navy, was ridden by James Bruin and carried 117 pounds.

Slick Jack, 117, took second place in the seven-horse field under Angel Cordero Jr.

The victory was the first in four starts for Sand Devil, which went 1 1/8 on the fast track in 1:51 2/5.

The winning entry returned $5.80, $2.80 and $2.80. Slick Jack paid $2.60 and $2.60 and Adam’s Blend was $3.60 to show.

At Sportsman’s Park in Chicago, Quintillion, ridden by Mark Guidry, charged from 20 lengths behind the leader with half a mile left in the $20,000 American Prince Purse to score a 2 1/4 lengths victory Monday.

Dvoik finished second and Royal Bonus rallied for third in the one-mile attraction, which matched a field of seven 4-year-olds and up. The race was held over a fast track as heavy snow fell.

Quintillion, the 9-5 favorite, was timed in 1:41 2/5 and paid $5.60, $2.80 and $2.40. Dvoik, a 4-1 shot, paid $4.20 and $2.60. Royal Bonus, the 2-1 second choice, paid $2.20.
