Council Votes to Resume Work on Civic Complex
Acting after a payment dispute stalled completion of its Civic Center for more than six weeks, the Beverly Hills City Council voted 5 to 0 Tuesday to resume work under a revised contract that could mean a final cost as high as $75.5 million for a project that was priced at $53 million as recently as November.
The complex agreement calls for J.A. Jones Construction Co. to get back on the job within two weeks and to finish the city’s new police station within 63 calendar days.
Council members said they were appalled at the extent of the cost overruns. They vowed to find who was to blame and seek legal action if any wrongdoing is uncovered.
