PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP : Irvine’s Brundage Strikes Out 16 in 19-0 Victory

Jennifer Brundage pitched a two-hitter with 16 strikeouts as Irvine High School defeated Perris, 19-0, in the first round of the Corona softball tournament Tuesday.
Brundage also had four hits, including a home run, and four RBIs. Karissa Meith had three hits and two RBIs for Irvine (1-1).
In other Corona tournament games:
Norco 3, San Clemente 1--San Clemente committed five errors and Norco scored three unearned runs in the first-round game. Tara Roush struck out eight for San Clemente (1-1).
El Toro 3, Riverside Poly 1--Marta Bickert pitched a one-hitter with eight strikeouts and also had two hits and an RBI for El Toro (3-0).
Valencia 3, Warren 2--Natasha Dumoski (2-0) allowed three hits in seven innings for Valencia. Stephaine McDiarmid had two hits and two RBIs for the winners (2-0).
In nonleague games:
Fountain Valley 3, St. Joseph 0--Rae Rice struck out 16 and allowed three hits for Fountain Valley in a nonleague game. Fountain Valley scored three runs in the third inning.
Capistrano Valley 10, Westminster 1--Host Capistrano Valley scored eight runs in the fourth. Jennifer Smith (2-0) struck out 12 and allowed two hits and Allyson Carpenter went three for four with a home run and four RBIs.
La Quinta 4, Edison 0--Jill Bishop (1-0) pitched a four-hitter and Diane Boston drove in two runs with a triple in the fourth inning for La Quinta (1-0) at Edison.
Mater Dei 2, Huntington Beach 1--Sundy Mosqueda, Jennifer Cline and Jennifer Clark hit consecutive doubles as host Mater Dei scored two in the first inning. Clark (1-0) struck out six for Mater Dei (2-0).
Rancho Alamitos 10, Newport Harbor 1--Freshman Destiny Mollinson struck out 12 and had three hits and two RBIs for host Rancho Alamitos, which scored six in the first inning. Shannon Byrd had three hits and two RBIs.
