U.S., Soviet Youths to Tour: The American Soviet Youth Orchestra, made up of 50 American and 50 Soviet music students selected after rigorous competitions in both countries, will give 24 concerts in 17 cities in the Soviet Union, Europe and the United States in July and August. Conducting the $1.3 million tour will be Leonard Slatkin, music director of the St. Louis Symphony, and Alexander Lazarev, artistic director of the Bolshoi Theater Orchestra in Moscow. Violinist Joshua Bell will accompany the tour as American soloist. The orchestra previously toured in the United States and Soviet Union in 1988.
