Redhair’s Key Three-Point Baskets Lead ASU Over Washington, 57-51
Mike Redhair scored a career-high 18 points Thursday night, leading Arizona State to a 57-51 victory over Washington in the first round of the Pacific 10 Conference tournament at Arizona State.
A senior guard from Tucson, Redhair made only six of 16 shots, including five of a tournament-record 14 three-point attempts, but nailed two three-pointers to spark a 10-0 run that lifted ASU in the last 2:01, propelling the Sun Devils (14-14) into a quarterfinal game today against top-seeded Oregon State (22-5).
Center Doug West scored 17 points to lead Washington (11-17), which played without three-time all-conference guard Eldridge Recasner, who was in New Orleans to attend his grandfather’s funeral.
Doug Meekins, formerly of Crenshaw High, scored 13 points for Washington, and Dion Brown, also from Crenshaw, had 12 points and 11 rebounds.
