COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Bammer Provides Punch in the 10th for Golden West

Josh Bammer singled in a run in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Golden West College a 4-3 victory over Rancho Santiago in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game Thursday at Golden West.

Bammer’s single scored Mark McGrann, who with two outs reached base on a catcher’s interference and moved to second on a single by Gerad Cawhorn.

Golden West is 13-2, 5-1; Rancho Santiago is 13-3 and 4-2.

In other Orange Empire Conference baseball games:

Fullerton 13, Orange Coast 11--Jim Short’s two-run home run in the sixth inning broke an 11-11 tie at Fullerton (13-3, 4-1). The home run was Short’s second of the game. He also had six RBIs. Orange Coast is 8-9, 1-4.

Cypress 7, Saddleback 1--Terry Tewell hit a three-run home run in first inning to give host Cypress (11-8, 1-4) a 3-0 lead. Troy Babbitt had three hits, including a grand slam in the seventh. Cypress had only four hits.

In Orange Empire Conference women’s tennis:

Saddleback 9, Fullerton 0--Noelle Schmidt defeated Danielle Conkey, 6-3, 6-1, for host Saddleback (7-3, 3-0).

In Orange Empire Conference men’s tennis:

Orange Coast 9, Rancho Santiago 0--Chris Flood defeated Mike Bains, 6-3, 6-3, to lead visiting Orange Coast (7-0, 3-0).

Cypress 6, Riverside 3--John Swaino defeated Brian Giffin 6-7, 6-3, 7-6, to lead visiting Cypress (5-4, 2-1).

Saddleback 9, Fullerton 0--Arlen Sternberg defeated Chuck Hall, 6-2, 6-1 for visiting Saddleback (9-0, 3-0).
