Those looking for an alternative to the annual spring basketball frenzy can find relief this weekend in a slew of music programs or yet another entertainment awards extravaganza.

Tonight, KCET Channel 28 encores a profile of jazz legend Louis Armstrong at 8 p.m. On Sunday, the station kicks up its heels with 8 1/2 hours of Broadway music beginning at 2:30 p.m. with a production of “Show Boat.” The all-day festival continues at 6 p.m. with “An Evening with Alan Jay Lerner,” followed by “Music by Richard Rogers” at 8 p.m. and concludes at 9:40 p.m. with the documentary “Les Miserables: Stage by Stage.”

“The 16th Annual People’s Choice Awards,” which polled 18,000 people in 15 countries this year to determine the public’s favorite entertainers, airs at 9 p.m. Sunday on Channels 2 and 8. Valerie Harper, Barbara Mandrell and Fred Savage serve as hosts.

On a more thought-provoking note, “60 Minutes” points its investigative cameras our way Sunday at 7 p.m. on Channels 2 and 8 with a report on whether the ongoing aerial spraying of the pesticide malathion poses a health risk to Southern Californians. The program also includes profiles of Saudi Arabia’s Prince Bandar and King Jordan, the head of Washington D.C.’s Galludet College for the deaf.
