Contract negotiations between North Carolina State and basketball Coach Jim Valvano may be postponed, at least until the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament is over, officials said.
The University of North Carolina Board of Governors, which oversees all 16 UNC campuses, was briefed by representatives of the state attorney general’s office on talks regarding Valvano’s possible departure as coach. When the private meeting was over, board members left quickly.
Sam Poole, board vice chairman, said he doesn’t expect further news on the negotiations until the ACC tournament ends Sunday.
Valvano has been under fire after allegations on ABC-TV last week that four Wolfpack players were involved in point shaving during the 1987-88 season.
