Malathion Spraying for Citrus Goes With the Southland Turf

Share

My family’s and my opposition to the aerial spraying of malathion on our home is based on a reality that we live with each day.

My mother and I have been diagnosed as chemically hypersensitive, and I have been hospitalized for it. If our home was sprayed, my mother and I would lose our home in Orange of over 30 years. My mother would also lose her job as a professional in the same city. This would be devastating to us. The prospects of relocating our home and career position because of environmental restrictions make this task extremely difficult.

I know of others with the same immune-system disorder, and one friend, a former resident of Garden Grove, has just lost her home to the spraying. I understand the threat to agriculture, but I can’t help but think that if placed in the same position as ours, those responsible would be able to find other equally effective and creative alternatives to control the Medfly.
