Mordecai Gorelik; Set Designer, Playwright

Mordecai Gorelik, 90, a theatrical set designer who also wrote, produced and directed plays. Known primarily for his scenic designs for such productions as “Golden Boy,” “Tortilla Flat,” “All My Sons,” “A Hatful of Rain,” Gorelik, also translated and adapted Swiss playwright’s Max Frisch’s “The Firebugs” in a widely heralded off-Broadway production. He taught at Southern Illinois University and Cal State San Jose and two years ago published “Toward a Larger Theater,” a book of seven of his plays. In Sarasota, Fla., on Wednesday.
