Southland Communications Stock Up 42.9%: The stock of Southland Communications, a Santa Ana paging company, rose 42.9% on heavy volume in over-the-counter trading Wednesday, but the company said it knew of no information that would account for the surge. Southland president Ahmad Bayaa said about 15,000 shares of the company’s stock are traded on a normal day, but volume reached 189,000 shares yesterday. Bayaa said he had “no idea” of why there was so much activity. The stock closed at $12.50, up $3.75.
