PREP ROUNDUP : Rolish Pitches, Bats Servite Past Valencia

Chad Rolish pitched five innings and had 10 strikeouts to lead Servite to a 6-3 victory over Valencia in a nonleague baseball game at Valencia.

Rolish helped himself with two hits and one run batted in and Ed Crippen had three hits, including a home run, two RBIs and scored three times for Servite.

Servite is 5-2 and Valencia is 4-1.

In other nonleague baseball games:

Estancia 13, Los Amigos 3--Colby French had three hits, scored three runs and had two RBIs to lead visiting Estancia. Len Herman had two triples and four RBIs and Kirk DeLong had two hits and three RBIs for Estancia.

La Habra 7, Whittier Christian 6--Nick Sciacca had two hits, including a home run, and had three RBIs for La Habra (1-5) at Whittier Christian (4-1).

Mission Viejo 3, Villa Park 3 (8 innings)--The umpires elected to end the game after eight innings at Villa Park. Don Disbro had a two-run single in the fifth and Rick Marian had a run-scoring double in the seventh to give Mission Viejo the tie. Jason Martian had two RBIs in the third and Aaron Boone had two hits, two stolen bases, walked twice and scored twice for Villa Park (4-1-1).

In Garden Grove League boys’ volleyball:

Rancho Alamitos 3, Kennedy 0--Richard Pearce had 17 kills, two blocks and four assists as Rancho Alamitos (2-4 overall, 1-0 in the league) swept, 15-3, 15-2, 15-0.

In Pacific Coast League boys’ volleyball:

Laguna Hills 3, Costa Mesa 0--Pat Nelson and Craig Riggs each had 10 kills to lead host Laguna Hills to a 15-10, 15-10, 15-12, victory. Todd Peterson had 29 assists for Laguna Hills (1-3, 1-1).

In Orange League boys’ tennis:

Western 16, Savanna 2--Ed Peregrino swept, 6-3, 6-0, 6-0 to lead visiting Western (5-1, 1-1).

Valencia 16, Brea-Olinda 2--Ron Lacuata swept, 6-3, 6-4, 6-0 to lead host Valencia (4-1).

In boys’ nonleague tennis:

Tustin 9, El Modena 9 (Tustin wins on games, 77-71)--The doubles team of Austin Kim and David Kenyon swept 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, to lead visiting Tustin (5-1).

Laguna Beach 10, Estancia 8--Jon Leach swept, 6-3, 6-0, 6-0, to lead host Laguna Beach (3-3).

Esperanza 11, Walnut 7--The doubles team of Dan Harris and Jim Stewart swept, 6-3, 6-1, 6-4, to lead host Esperanza (5-2). Fountain Valley 10, La Quinta 8--Colby Morita swept 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 for visiting Fountain Valley (5-10).

Corona del Mar 10, Beverly Hills 7--Visiting Corona del Mar (5-1) was led by David Bain, who won, 7-6, 7-6; his third set was called because of darkness at 3-3. In doubles, Corona del Mar’s Ken Alston and Marshall Solomon swept, 6-0, 6-0, 7-5.

In nonleague boys’ swimming:

Orange 96, Canyon 55--Mike Prahm won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.57 seconds and the 100 butterfly (58.31) and Matt Marresh won the 200 individual medley (2:18.82) and the 100 backstroke (1:02.97) to lead visiting Orange (7-0).

Irvine 105, Valencia 48--Greg Tonkovich won the 50 freestyle (22.63) to lead visiting Irvine (3-0).

In nonleague girls’ swimming:

Irvine 94, Valencia 59--Amy Bodas won the 100 individual medley (2:19.93), Stacy Smith won the 100 breaststroke (1:13.93) and Jessica Ruby won both the 200 freestyle (2:01.18) and the 500 freestyle (5:21.22) to lead visiting Irvine (3-0).

Fountain Valley 85, Newport Harbor 68--Laura Thomson won the 200 individual medley (2:33.54) and the 100 breaststroke (1:10.90) for host Newport Harbor (1-1).

In nonleague boys’ track and field:

Loara 102, Magnolia 28--Phouphet Singbandith of Magnolia jumped 21-9 3/4 inches in the long jump and 48-2 1/4 inches in the triple jump. In the discus, Albert Aliva threw 153-11 to lead hosts Loara.
