COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Irvine Gets Three in First, Tops SCC, 5-3

Four players had RBI singles to lead UC Irvine to a 5-3 victory over Southern California College Thursday in a nonconference baseball game at UC Irvine.
Al Rodriguez and Mike Goodcase had RBI singles in the first inning when Irvine took a 3-1 lead. Chris Gallego added an RBI single in the seventh and Billy Bardens had a run-scoring single in the eighth for Irvine (17-9), which took a 5-1 lead. SCC rallied for two runs in the eighth.
Steve May (3-2) got the victory and Larry Jacinto (1-2) took the loss for SCC (11-9).
In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. baseball:
Cal State Dominguez Hills 5, Chapman 3--Gilbert Diaz allowed eight hits and had six strikeouts for Cal State Dominguez Hills (10-8 and 5-4 in conference play) at Hart Park. Mike Giuseffi had two hits and an RBI and scored a run, and Mike Kelly had a hit and two RBIs for Chapman (11-11, 3-5).
In nonconference women’s tennis:
Pennsylvania 5, Cal State Fullerton 3--Kelli Moore won, 6-1, 6-2, and Roseann Alva won, 6-3, 6-4, in singles for host Cal State Fullerton (8-9). The pair teamed in doubles to win, 6-3, 6-3, for Fullerton’s other point.
