STATE HIGH SCHOOL CHAMPIONSHIPS : El Cajon Christian Loses in Division V

Behind a furious fourth-quarter rally, Northern California champion Colusa defeated El Cajon Christian, 62-48, to win the boys’ State Division V championship Friday in the Oakland Coliseum Arena.

After trailing, 34-32, at the end of three quarters, the Redskins outscored the Patriots, 30-14, in the game’s final eight minutes.

Colusa (30-2) was able to hold Tony Clark, the state’s leading scoring, to 27 points, 19 below his playoff scoring average.

Jason Vossler led the Redskins with 17 points, while Mario Reveles and Brian Bledsoe each had 14.

El Cajon finished at 19-12.

In girls’ championship action:

Atherton Menlo 53, Rosamond 27--Laurie Stucker scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Knights (27-5) to their second consecutive Division V title.

Menlo, which outrebounded the Roadrunners, 53-27, also got 12 points from Kate Paye, sister of Menlo coach and former Stanford quarterback John Paye.

Rosamond finished at 21-8.

Moraga Campolindo 41, Santa Maria St. Joseph 40--Behind Kim Rubenstein’s 14 points, including six in the fourth quarter, and Kari Sivesind’s 12 points and 12 rebounds, the Cougars (23-12) survived a second half rally by the Knights in Division IV.

Jennifer Anaya led the Knights (28-4) with 14 points and Amy McConnell scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
