Rubin Shoots 70 to Move Into Lead

Nancy Rubin shot a two-under-par 70 Friday to take the lead by one stroke over Japan’s Ayako Okamoto after two rounds of the LPGA Tucson Open.

Rubin, who had a share of the lead after the first round, survived her first 36-hole cut after missing the last three, posting a seven-under-par 137 on the par-72, 6,243-yard Randolph Golf Course.

Okamoto, playing in only her second tournament in four months, shot a five-under-par 67 and is one shot back at 138.

Colleen Walker is two strokes off the pace at 139 after a 68. Kate Rogerson and Amy Benz are three away at 140, and Betsy King, the 1987 Tucson Open winner, and Marta Figueras-Dotti, who shared the first-round lead with Rubin, are at 141.

Defending champion Lori Garbacz shot a 73 and is at 144, along with Pat Bradley, who had a 74.

Ken Still and Dale Douglas fired 66s and shared the lead after the first round of the Senior PGA tournament at San Antonio.

Charles Owens was one stroke back and led the field in the Vantage Classic for players 60 years and older.

Billy Maxwell and Dave Hill were next with 68.
