From Times Staff and Wire Service Reports

Marc Summers, who is host of “Super Sloppy Double Dare,” isn’t sure why the messy stunts in the cable TV game show are so appealing to so many children.

Young contestants bombard each other with soda water and bananas, or wade through molasses and baked beans, to earn points.

“There are some things about our show that I’ll never understand,” Summers said. He brought the show to Dallas to give its fans a close-up look at the carnage.

Summers knows of at least one adult who thinks the show isn’t the least bit funny. While passing out Halloween candy at his home last fall, one woman realized who he was.

“She took one look at me and said, ‘You’re that guy on “Double Dare!” I hate your guts!’ ”

Apparently, her son had duplicated a stunt from the show by creating an obstacle course of ground coffee through the family living room.

“I thought she was going to kill me,” Summers said.
