Padres Begin Advance Ticket Sales Today

Advance ticket sales for the San Diego Padres begin at 7 a.m. today at Jack Murphy Stadium for all 1990 home games, except the rescheduled April 10 home opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Padres are asking ticket holders for the cancelled series, beginning April 6 against the Cincinnati Reds, to hold them for exchange or refund until Major League Baseball announces the final season schedule.

Beginning March 21, ticket office hours are 8 a.m.-6 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on weekends. For ticket information call 283-4494.

SOFTBALL

San Diego State swept a double header from visiting Bowling Green, giving the Aztecs their seventh victory in their last 10 games. SDSU won the first game, 5-0 then took the second, 2-0. SDSU began the season with an 0-12 start.

Michelle Wesson (7-7) threw two-hitters in each game and struck out five in the second game. SDSU’s Sue Campbell went four for five for the day. SDSU is 8-15; Bowling Green is 0-4.

U.S. International went extra innings but won its fourth and fifth consecutive games with victories over visiting Rutgers (2-2). The Gulls (11-14) took the first game, 1-0 in 10 innings and won the second, 2-1 in nine.

Pitchers Nora Flores (5-8) and Cindy Oliver (6-6) went the distance. Flores gave up five hits and struck out six and Oliver allowed two hits.

MEN’S TENNIS

Matt Rivera was a double winner as SDSU defeated Utah, 5-4, in its final Western Athletic Conference match of the season. The victory should give the Aztecs, who were undefeated in WAC play, a No. 1 seeding at the WAC Tournament, beginning April 1 at Fort Collins, Colo.

Rivera defeated Brenden Bowyer, 7-6, 1-6, 6-4 in No. 4 singles, then clinched the match at No. 2 doubles with Jeff Belloli. They defeated Martin Tenleno and Chris Reilly, 7-5, 6-3. SDSU improved to 12-4, 6-0. Utah dropped to 8-7, 3-1.

Wisconsin handed USIU a 7-2 loss in a nonconference match at USIU. No. 4 Sinisia Rasberger was the Gulls only winner in singles. He escaped with a 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 victory over Bryan Nelson. At No. 1 doubles, Yoram Baron and Marc Schumacher were winners.

MEN’S GOLF

USIU’s John Adams is in a three-way tie for sixth place at the Duck Invitational in Eugene, Ore. Adams’ shot a one-under-par 71 combined with his first round 75 for a 146. Oregon (590) is first in team standings. USIU (611) is tied for ninth. SDSU (626) is in 15th.
