NHL ROUNDUP : Flyers Keep Hopes Alive

Share

Murray Craven and Mike Bullard scored second-period power-play goals Tuesday night at East Rutherford, N.J., and the Philadelphia Flyers beat New Jersey, 3-2.

With their third victory in four games, the Flyers tightened the six-team Patrick Division in which four will qualify for Stanley Cup play. Only the New York Rangers have qualified.

The second-place Devils have 72 points, Washington has 71, Pittsburgh has 70, the New York Islanders 68 and Philadelphia 67.

Washington 3, New York Islanders 0--Mike Liut stopped 24 shots at Landover, Md., for his first shutout since joining the Capitals March 5.

The Capitals moved closer to a playoff spot, but the slumping Islanders, who have won only once in their last 17 games, are slipping out of contention.

It was Liut’s 24th shutout, most by any active goaltender.

Detroit 4, Vancouver 4--Greg Adams scored the tying goal for the Canucks with just under seven minutes left in regulation at Detroit. Adams thought he had scored the winner four minutes later, but Referee Paul Devorski ruled Adams knocked the puck into the net with his glove.
