Beverly Hills : Travel Questionnaire Sent

As part of a City Council-ordered study to determine how much commuter traffic is spilling onto residential streets, a questionnaire is being mailed selected residents and business operators in Beverly Hills and parts of Los Angeles.

The two-part questionnaire will collect information about travel patterns and attitudes toward solving traffic problems. Preliminary surveys by the city have indicated that a significant portion of drivers on side streets were there solely to avoid congestion on major thoroughfares.

The attitudinal portion of the survey asks whether respondents would favor installation on their streets of such traffic diverters as right-turn-only restrictions, street closures or speed bumps. It also asks how much additional travel time would be an acceptable trade-off for a 25% to 50% traffic reduction in a neighborhood.
