Former baseball commissioner Bowie Kuhn said that despite being hounded by creditors of his failed New York law firm, he has no plans to file for bankruptcy, and he denied reports he was hiding in Ponte Vedra, Fla., to protect his property under Florida’s liberal debtor laws.
Kuhn told the Florida Times-Union that such reports were “unfair and wrong,” saying he moved to Florida with his wife, Luisa, for a change of pace.
His firm, Myerson & Kuhn, ran into problems in 1989 when a client, Shearson Lehman Hutton, claimed it had been overbilled, demanding a $2-million refund. Shearson settled for $1 million, which the law firm promised to pay in monthly installments. The firm filed for Chapter 11 protection in December.
