X Marks the Film: Miramax Films’ appeal to change the Motion Picture Assn. of America X-rating on “The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover” was denied by the MPAA Friday. Miramax representative Cynthia Swartz said the film company now has three options: to cut the film to get an R rating, to release the movie unrated, or to release it with its X rating intact. She said Miramax will make a decision this week. The movie, a Peter Greenaway black comedy, was rated X for its full-frontal nudity and sexual content. It is scheduled to open nationally April 6.
