PREP ROUNDUP : Corona del Mar Rally Beats Newport Harbor in 5 Sets

Corona del Mar High School rallied in the fifth game to defeat Newport Harbor in a Sea View League boys’ volleyball match Tuesday at Corona del Mar.

Doug Hesse had 28 kills and Carter Reese had 22 kills and 18 blocks as the Sea Kings (1-2, 1-0 in the league) won, 15-8, 15-13, 12-15, 10-15, 15-10. Corona del Mar had trailed in the final game, 6-3.

Justin Redmond had 16 kills and Ian Juberg had 15 for Newport Harbor (1-4, 0-1).

In another Sea View League volleyball match:

University 3, Tustin 0--Zolti Csanyi had eight kills as host University (3-1, 1-0) won, 15-4, 15-3, 15-7.

In Olympic League volleyball:

Santa Margarita 3, Ontario Christian 0--Jeff Osborne had four kills as visiting Santa Margarita (8-2, 3-1) won, 15-2, 15-8, 15-13.

In the Angelus League:

Mater Dei 3, Bishop Amat 0--Mark Iverson had seven kills and four aces as visiting Mater Dei (4-6, 2-2) won, 15-8, 15-10, 15-8.

In South Coast League volleyball:

Dana Hills 3, Mission Viejo 0--Dave Hagen and Travis Barr each had 12 kills as visiting Dana Hills won, 15-7, 15-9, 15-12.

El Toro 3, Irvine 2--Mike Shannon had 21 kills and Matt Back added 20 as El Toro won, 15-13, 11-15, 15-9, 7-15, 15-10, at Irvine.

Capistrano Valley 3, San Clemente 1--Vance Hickin, Ryan Benn and Brian Godshaw each had nine kills as host San Clemente (5-2, 1-0) won, 15-9, 15-2, 13-15, 15-2.

In Orange League golf:

Western 211, Brea-Olinda 224--Matt Paradis shot a two-over 38 for Western (8-1, 2-0) at Dad Miller in Anaheim.

In Pacific Coast League golf:

Orange 196, Woodbridge 207--Sean Baron shot a two-over 35 for Orange (1-1 in league) at Riverview golf course.

Laguna Beach 205, Costa Mesa 263--Jonah Tatch shot a two-over 39 for Laguna Beach (4-2-1, 1-0-1) at the Costa Mesa golf course.

In Sunset League golf:

Ocean View 208, Edison 221--Chris O’Byrne shot a three-over 39 for Ocean View (1-0) at Mile Square Park.

In South Coast League golf:

El Toro 413, Capistrano Valley 425 (18 holes)--Joe Garner of El Toro shot a three-over 76 at the El Toro Marine base course.

Dana Hills 197, Irvine 211--Scott Richardson and Dan Buchner each shot a one-over 37 for Dana Hills at Rancho San Joaquin.

In Sea View League golf:

Corona del Mar 200, Tustin 239--Steve Dana shot a one-under 35 for Corona del Mar at Tustin Ranch.

In nonleague golf:

Valencia 415, Servite 419--Chris Tidland shot one-under 71 to lead Valencia (7-0) in an 18-hole match Tuesday at Hacienda Golf Club and Alta Vista Country Club March 19.

In Angelus League tennis:

Servite 14, St. Paul 4--The No. 1 doubles team of Eric Gonda and Edgar Padilla won, 6-1, 6-1, 6-1, for visiting Servite (5-4, 4-2).
